⁴⁸ after which they set fire to the city and seized a great amount of booty. Thus they saved the life of the king.

⁴⁹ When the people of the city realized that the Jews had the city at their mercy, their courage failed them, and they cried out to the king, making this entreaty: ⁵⁰ “Grant us terms of peace, and order the Jews to stop fighting against us and our city.” They threw down their arms and made peace.
